Traveling Merchant: Constel

Who holds the stars in their place and tells them when to shift across the night sky? Who calls them down or tosses them through space so that their trails may bring fear and awe in the hearts of those whose eyes dazzle in their light? These are the questions that delight the mind of Constel as she forages the forests, swamps, coasts, and anywhere else her eyes, nose, or heart tells her to go. She hardly ever walks plainly, but instead skips, swings, and waltzes from place to place, occasionally stopping to get a sense of which turn to make next.

She comes from a gnomish clan that lives in and out of holes across many different places and at many different times. They followed their hearts too, to different resources like hot springs or veins of metals, sometimes even following herds of grazing animals to hunt and live off of, but always in community. Constel has nothing but love for this way of life, which made it even harder for her to leave. It was hard to leave the people that she loves, especially when nothing caused her to want to leave except for a greater love. She doesn’t have a word for what this love is for either, but it is a feeling that she gets when she looks at a new place, discovers a new plant, or meets people for the first time. It is something her family’s way of life could not offer her, so she found it on her own.

So the life she has taken on is that of a wanderer, a nomad, a traveler for the sake of traveling and discovery. She also has a proclivity for herbalism, nature, trapping, and poisons. The road is dangerous and learning how to protect herself from even the greatest of predators is necessary. So she stocks up on healing salves that she makes, as well as tools for making traps, weapons she made from the remains of slain beasts, and has refined some paralytic and lethal toxins to help her escape from or kill some of nature’s toughest foes.

Personality Traits: Much like her aimless and shifting life, Counsel’s sentences often start with no idea where she will end them. She is often surprised by what she says especially when it reveals to her what her true feelings are. She lives entirely in the moment.

Ideals: Discovery, Benevolence, Nature. Beauty unseen is a terrible tragedy. So Constel wants to run about and see everything she can, from the smallest bug to the most epic meteor shower.

Bonds: Constel has only ever known trade; service for service. Those who are helpful to her are repaid in her craft. Otherwise, she is not holding on too much and tries to be as free from bonds as possible.

Flaws: Constel is not untrusting in the least, though it would appear that way by how little she cares for relationships. She would rather live free from all responsibilities and attachments to others so that she can continue to follow her whims. Despite this, she is still extremely likable and leaves a trail of people who wished she would have stuck around.
